Intel V/s AMD

So, the fight has begun, eh???
Ladies and G Men, get ready for the processor battle!!
Read this News snippet...

Could it be the folks over at Intel are getting a little nervous?
Word on the street is the rival Advanced Micro Devices has been eating their lunch in the small, but very lucrative four-way server business (that's four or more processors in one system). AMD also is doing brisk business in the entry-level server market.

Never a company to take any lost sales standing still, Intel announced today it "is accelerating the availability" of its dual-core Xeon and Xeon MP processors, introducing new chips at some unspecified time this year instead of next. They'll be targets at "early adopters and evaluators of dual-core technology."
In an oddly worded release, the chipmaker then adds that these new processors really are a prelude to two other chips that will be introduced in early 2006.

What gives? Behind the curtains, one might expect to find that Dell has been pressuring Intel to come up with something to help them compete with hot-sellig systems from HP, Sun and others, who have heartily been jumping on the AMD bandwagon.

And AMD execs likely are smirking at the idea that dual-core technology still needs a lot of testing, since their own products have been flying off the shelves. They say they have an inherent advantage over Intel because their architecture is vastly more energy -efficient, on top of being powerful in their own right.

While Intel is still making a bundle off its Xeon chips, it seems clear they're feeling the heat for the first time in a long time from AMD. And if researchers from IDC or Gartner in coming weeks confirm that AMD continues to gain share in that space, it'll be a black eye that will make Intel very unhappy indeed.

Oh boy, What a Match!!

Oh boy, What a Match!!
What a Match, What a Match!!
I just can’t stop repeating this!!

It was an awesome match (Stop it!!). England against Australia, 2nd Test, The Ashes.

The match was complete blast from the beginning. England getting off to a good start in the first innings, they made 407 in a day!! Thanks to Flintoff and Trescothick. They bowled well too. Got a lead of 99 runs. But, all was not well for England. They lost their way, but again, the bad boy of English Cricket Flintoff with his blistering 73 runs, helped Eng make 182. 282 was Australia’s Target.

Well, most of us would have thought "Man, 282? Is this enough to beat the Invincible? Com’ on!". The commentators were under the impression that England were a 100 runs too short. But, like England, The stalwarts lost their way too! By the End of the third day, Ozzies found themselves in deep trouble with 8 wickets down needing another 107runs to go.

Fourth day, England I think were pretty sure that this was their. Not just the players, almost all. The commentators thought the match would be over in 2 balls in the morning!! But, It was not supposed to be so! With warne and Lee in the crease, runs came quite easily. They put on a 45 run partnership for the 9th wicket. Warne got out, in a pretty funny way actually. He rattled the stumps with his leg!! Gone, Hit wicket.

One more to go.

Now, It was all in the Hands of Lee and Kasprowicz. They batted superbly. The match went down to the wire!! Finally, It came to a stage where in Ozzies needed just 2 runs for the win! The whole of England would have expected England to lose. England so near, yet so far? That too after coming this close.

But wait, the drama is not over yet! what happened, you ask?

Steve Harminson, bowls a short ball, Kasprowicz tries go out of the way, but the ball comes on to him, and goes out to keeper G Jones who holds on to it!!

England WINS!!! Yes!!!
Man, it’s been a stunning match, what tension, what gripping climax. You should watch it to experience it!!
Waiting for the next match. Let’s see if England can hold on?

Summary -
England 407 and 181 (Flintoff 73)
beat
Australia 308 and 279 (Warne 42, Lee 43*)
by two runs
Match Of the Match - Andrew Flintoff
