Oh boy, What a Match!!
Oh boy, What a Match!!
What a Match, What a Match!!
I just can’t stop repeating this!!
It was an awesome match (Stop it!!). England against Australia, 2nd Test, The Ashes.
The match was complete blast from the beginning. England getting off to a good start in the first innings, they made 407 in a day!! Thanks to Flintoff and Trescothick. They bowled well too. Got a lead of 99 runs. But, all was not well for England. They lost their way, but again, the bad boy of English Cricket Flintoff with his blistering 73 runs, helped Eng make 182. 282 was Australia’s Target.
Well, most of us would have thought "Man, 282? Is this enough to beat the Invincible? Com’ on!". The commentators were under the impression that England were a 100 runs too short. But, like England, The stalwarts lost their way too! By the End of the third day, Ozzies found themselves in deep trouble with 8 wickets down needing another 107runs to go.
Fourth day, England I think were pretty sure that this was their. Not just the players, almost all. The commentators thought the match would be over in 2 balls in the morning!! But, It was not supposed to be so! With warne and Lee in the crease, runs came quite easily. They put on a 45 run partnership for the 9th wicket. Warne got out, in a pretty funny way actually. He rattled the stumps with his leg!! Gone, Hit wicket.
One more to go.
Now, It was all in the Hands of Lee and Kasprowicz. They batted superbly. The match went down to the wire!! Finally, It came to a stage where in Ozzies needed just 2 runs for the win! The whole of England would have expected England to lose. England so near, yet so far? That too after coming this close.
But wait, the drama is not over yet! what happened, you ask?
Steve Harminson, bowls a short ball, Kasprowicz tries go out of the way, but the ball comes on to him, and goes out to keeper G Jones who holds on to it!!
England WINS!!! Yes!!!
Man, it’s been a stunning match, what tension, what gripping climax. You should watch it to experience it!!
Waiting for the next match. Let’s see if England can hold on?
Summary -
England 407 and 181 (Flintoff 73)
beat
Australia 308 and 279 (Warne 42, Lee 43*)
by two runs
Match Of the Match - Andrew Flintoff
